Fourth of July breakfast
Fava beans or man’oushi?
Early in the morning, the aroma of cooked Fava beans filled the house. Holidays are about getting together and spending time with family and friends. This week, our friends from Virginia were in town, and we invited them for breakfast.
Traditionally, Middle Eastern breakfast, especially Lebanese, includes cooked brown Fava beans that is marinated with lemon juice and minced garlic and garnished with olive oil and green mint.
This is actually a brunch, and it includes the usual dishes of green and black olives, yogurt cheese spread, a vegetable tray and a host of cheeses and marmalade.
Fava beans is served in small brown dishes and Middle Easter flat bread. Everything was wonderful, and we retired afterword to the living room sipping steamed black tea.
