Supreme Court tosses out citizenship quesion
Politics aside, the decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to toss out the citizenship questions from the 2020 census is a victory for the nation. Here is why:
The proposed question by the Trump administration and their conservative friends would discourage people from filling out the forms at a time when many organizations and governmental entities are to maximize participation.
Census information is used to plan the provision of health care, education, employment, transport, etc.
It is used to help determine where to build new schools, roads, health care facilities, child-care and senior centre. The Census is also an important economic tool.
All of these facets of services do not distinguish between citizens and non citizens, and this is why adding the citizenship question to the forms does not help.
President Trump is trying to delay the 2020 census, hoping to staff the court with similar minded justices, but his plan most likely not to work.
We urge the government to abide by the ruling and move on with the 2020 Census. Click here for more information …..
